I had a most wonderful time reading at this beautiful bookstore. I used to live in Noe Valley before and would have loved to have a place like this to go to. But hurray for those who are living there now, this is really a special place!
There is a room on the inside with mushroom stools and a tree hollow. Bright lanterns hang from the ceiling and there are of course books all around. There are story readings every day and then on the weekends too. The guys who run this place obviously love what they are doing.
This reading was about celebrating Holi too since Holi happens to be on the same day. I gave folks an introduction to Holi and how we celebrated it. My favorite part was shouting “Holi Hai” and hearing it echo back strengthened by all the voices in the room. We then sang some counting rhymes with peppy guitar music in the background. I read the book to smiling and eager faces. And then when I thought it couldn’t get better, there were bubbles frmo the sky! “Holi Hai”, my heart screamed. I felt like I was 2 years old again. We ended the reading by sharing traditional Indian sweets and of course some yummy Gulab Jamuns with everyone.
