Between Two Worlds, The Art and Life of Amrita Sher-Gill

Author: Meera Sriram

Illustrator: Ruchi Bakshi Sharma

Publisher: Penny Candy Books

I have enjoyed previous books by Meera and was looking forward to this one especially because it is a different genre – non-fiction and a bio! Meera has so beautifully used her words to bring out the beauty of the artist, Amrita Sher-Gil’s work. We get snippets into Amrita’s life, her quest for identity, her unique style, her quiet rebellious personality. Ruchi Bakshi Sharma with her beautiful illustrations gives us glimpses into Amrita’s style of art and the meaning behind it. What I love the most about the book is the ending. It is so full of yearning yet so full of meaning. If you have children who love art – I mean which child doesn’t love art – this book is a must to treasure.
