What a beautiful book in every way! I was lucky to be able to attend the author’s book reading when this book was released. I had to purchase a copy for myself as soon as the reading was done. Young Mo, a peacock without the usual bright colors found in other peacocks, is dejected that he looks different. Even though the rest of his group boosts his spirits reminding him that birds of a feather stick together, he can’t help feeling alone. Until something happens that makes him realize his true worth. Author Sita Singh masterfully weaves a message of unity and self-acceptance in a gentle, refreshing, and relatable way. The illustrations by Stephanie are gorgeous – every page is a visual treat. My six-year-old has been reading it every night. His favorite page is the one in which Mo is saying Te-Hunk. Needless to say, there has been a lot of Te-Hunk’ing around the house. I loved the back matter as well which educates the reader about the significance of peacocks in the Indian culture.
