Book reading for Indigo Program at Barnes and Noble, Almaden

Had a fun time at the book reading at Barnes and Noble for the @indigoprogram program book fair on Tuesday, Nov 19. I enjoyed interacting with the kids and parents from the Indigo program that seems to share the philosophy of my kids’ school in developing the whole child. I was treated to peoples’ stories of how they first experienced Gulab Jamuns, indian sweets and the reach of indian food in the African continent. Did I ever mention I ate parathas on my hike up Kilimanjaro? The world is, indeed, a small place! I met… Read More »Book reading for Indigo Program at Barnes and Noble, Almaden

Bookreading at Fremont Main library

B The book reading of 10 Gulab Jamuns at Fremont main library was great. It was a really good turnout. I forgot to take pictures so I had the lovely Elizabeth pose with me after the event. Before the actual reading I had time to interact with the baccha party and boy, was that entertaining! Among other things, we discussed favorite sweets. This time, jam was the front runner. There was also ice cream and of course Gulab Jamuns. I started the session with counting rhymes and then used the book to get the little… Read More »Bookreading at Fremont Main library

Indian American panel at Books Inc. Campbell

Browsing a well-stocked bookstore is such a pleasure. Books Inc. Campbell has not only a plethora of amazing book titles but also some amazing employees who really believe in the power of books and pushing local talent. Thanks, Robin! It was my first time being on a panel for indian-amerian story time on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2nd, 2018. I was lucky to be on the panel with authors Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan and Ravin Singh. They are amazing authors, great readers and also such interesting individuals. There was so much to learn from each… Read More »Indian American panel at Books Inc. Campbell

Book Reading of 10 Gulab Jamuns at San Francisco Public Library

Saturday, May 4, 2018 I feel really grateful today having just done a book reading at the San Francisco Public Library on the joint occasion of Children’s Book Week and Asian Heritage month. The building at Larkin Street is central and well connected. This time I had two special guests with me. My parents visiting me from India accompanied me to the reading. As soon as we reached the place our hostess Lyn was there helping us with parking, escorting us and making us comfortable. I felt so welcome. Thanks, Lyn for being such a great… Read More »Book Reading of 10 Gulab Jamuns at San Francisco Public Library

Book-reading at Books Inc. Santa Clara

I had a book reading of “10 Gulab Jamuns” this past weekend at Books Inc, Santa Clara. Robin and the entire staff were so welcoming. The story time included a quick introduction about Book Inc by Robin. It was really informative. A thumbs up to all those who are working hard on the indie bookstores scene. It is not just about the books, it is a community space for everyone. We in Santa Clara are lucky we have a place like Books Inc in our own backyard. I introduced Holi to everyone and we said “Holi… Read More »Book-reading at Books Inc. Santa Clara

Book Reading at Charlie’s Corner in Noe Valley

I had a most wonderful time reading at this beautiful bookstore. I used to live in Noe Valley before and would have loved to have a place like this to go to. But hurray for those who are living there now, this is really a special place! There is a room on the inside with mushroom stools and a tree hollow. Bright lanterns hang from the ceiling and there are of course books all around. There are story readings every day and then on the weekends too. The guys who run this place obviously love… Read More »Book Reading at Charlie’s Corner in Noe Valley

10 Gulab Jamuns at ICC – India Community Center

I had a vibrant and involved book reading session at the ICC center in Milpitas last weekI did a morning session with excited preschoolers. They were so involved. Everyone was excited to see foods that they recognized in the book. Later in the evening, I read to an enthusiastic bunch of after-schoolers. They were extremely active and eager. They listened carefully and some of them declared “I like the story”. I gave them a prompt of “If I had 10 Gulab Jamuns” and asked them to write a story with pictures and if they wanted, words. Boy, were they creative!

Book reading at picturesque Portola Valley library

I went in to read my book 10 Gulab Jamuns at the Portola Valley library. I was in for a beautiful surprise. As I drove along Sand Hill drive I forgot for a moment I was still in the busy Bay Area. It was green and verdant, mountains, trees when I looked out of the window. As I neared the destination I looked for the sprawling building, the strip malls, the shops around. Instead, I parked outside a beautiful log cabin-like structure surrounded by a little creek and a park echoing with the voices of… Read More »Book reading at picturesque Portola Valley library

10 Gulab Jamuns at MVLA

On Jan 9th I did a book reading session at (MVLA) Mountain View Adult Education Center. The lovely ladies at the daycare center and the director made me feel at home and the kids were so into the story and counting. The parents attend classes and can drop their kids at the daycare. They have so many good programs at this center. Gave me some great insights about the gaps in education especially for adults and others in need and the great work organizations like these do outside the mainstream schools. A great beginning to… Read More »10 Gulab Jamuns at MVLA

Wonderful Book Reading at Wonderland

A few weeks back I did a book reading at Wonderland Chinese immersion school.  It was special because it was my first ever book reading. I am so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to do this at such a wonderfully well-run school with caring staff and teachers. I loved the concept of an immersion school where students get to really learn about a specific culture. It was heartwarming to see the school was so sincere in giving the students opportunities to not just immerse in some cultures but also learn about diversity and exposure… Read More »Wonderful Book Reading at Wonderland

A Happy Day with 10 Gulab Jamuns

Every year, the Diwali celebration at my son’s preschool- Happy Days, is a much awaited one. This time it was even more special for me as I was given an opportunity to present my book “10 Gulab Jamuns” to the wonderful parents and children of Happy Days. The director, Ms.Marmen, here is an energetic force behind the school and she has always been so encouraging throughout my journey. I read a quick excerpt from my book and had her volunteer to taste some Gulab Jamuns as she was being cheered by the audience. The festive… Read More »A Happy Day with 10 Gulab Jamuns

A birthday celebration with 10 Gulab Jamuns

Last week we went to a birthday party of a very dear friend of my son. The family was so gracious to include a book reading of 10 Gulab Jamuns as part of the celebration. Even with stiff competition from an impressive bouncy house, the kids eagerly gathered around when it was time to read. Some of them had come early to make sure they don’t miss the session. The kids were engaged and interactive throughout. A few recognized and were excited to see foods that they eat every day featured in the book. Some… Read More »A birthday celebration with 10 Gulab Jamuns
